By the spring of
1945, 442 Sqn RCAF was equipped with Mustang IV aircraft and it was the
colourful IPMS decals that prompted me to try another Mustang.
The
Tamiya 1:48 scale P-51D kit was the platform for the non-standard paint
scheme.
The
cockpit was built up first as usual, adding only the seat belts.
The fuselage was
painted and the cockpit section added ..everything fitting perfectly.
The wheel wells
were painted then the wings assembled
With the final
assembly completed the model was painted with Alclad II in various
shades then the trim was applied using Model Master Yellow.
The IPMS
Canada decals were layered without trouble and no decal solvent was
used.
Very little Tamiya
Putty was needed to get the seams hidden
A bit of weathering, a few small details added and Y2*A was ready to
display in my collection of RCAF aircraft.
Many thanks to IPMS Canada fr these beautiful decals.
